MATCH ANALYSIS

After a few weeks break Freuchie’s U11s took on a Dunfermline team who unfortunately turned up 2 players short. Luckily, U13 regulars Alastair Brett, Rory Brown and Liam Kelly were spectating and assisted by fielding for Dunfermline. Max and Fergus Skinner both made successful Freuchie debuts and contributed with both bat and ball. Dunfermline batted first and despite losing 7 wickets still posted a total of 213 runs. Notably bowling performances were Max Skinner (one wicket for 4 runs), Holly Jones (one wicket for 4 runs), Grant Horsburgh (2 wickets for 7 runs) and Greg Birrell (2 wickets for 9 runs). The other wicket taker was Fergus Skinner.

A confident Freuchie then went into bat knowing they only needed to keep their wickets to ensure victory. Things started well, but Freuchie begun to lose wickets regularly putting great pressure on the incoming batsmen. So, as the final two batsmen, Brett and Horsburgh. came to the wicket they needed 14 runs to win, but disastrously they lost an early wicket when Brett was run out. A great batting performance followed from Horsburgh and Freuchie needed 3 runs off the last ball to win. Unfortunately the runs didn’t come and Dunfermline triumphed. Best Freuchie batsmen were Alex Warren (13 runs), Max Skinner (10 runs), Greg Birrell and Grant Horsburgh (9 runs).

A Bad Day at the Office?

Things clearly did not go to plan on Saturday past, when the Firsts were away to Drumpelier. Not a lot of comment has come my way, but the kindest I heard was “wickets absolutely thrown away.” That, and rather sheepish looks from some of the players, would seem to confirm that a better result might have been achieved. Drumpelier scored what might be thought a fairly modest total of 160, but Freuchie’s 127 all out was much more modest. Drumpelier get 12 points, Freuchie is awarded only 1. Scott Galloway is doing well, though, consistently useful with both bat and ball. As always, all the scores are to be seen on the Lloyds TSB Scotland League Division One webpage.

We’ll be at home to Forfarshire this weekend, giving our sponsors the annual ‘thank you’ lunch and, we hope, some good cricket. The Twos are off to Livingston, while Sunday sees us making our way to St Boswells in the fourth round of the Village Cup. Let’s hope that Saturday gives us something to celebrate and that the celebrations don’t have an adverse impact on Sunday’s players!
