On Yer Bike
TOUR DE FREUCHIE (Bring yer ain yelly jersey)
An exciting cycle relay race will be held on Saturday the 29th of December for Freuchie Cricket Club’s last competitive event of the year. Twenty teams (possibly more) of four riders will compete, each rider completing a lap of the 4.5 mile route from the clubhouse, north past Unthank, west towards Lathrisk, through Newton of Falkland and home to Freuchie to send the next team member on their way. They will do this twice (if they have the stamina), some riders taking it more seriously than others. Prizes will be awarded for best team and individual performances.
One of the main purposes of the day is to raise funds for the refurbishment of the club’s outfield mower, which is to cost over £2,100. Having this year won ‘Scottish Groundsman of the Year’ award for the second time, groundsman Dave Christie recognises the importance of this mower in keeping the park in its excellent condition. Each cycle team captain is organising the contribution from his team, with monies coming from entry fees and sponsorship. Rider registration starts at 11 am, with first rider off at 12 noon.
The other purpose of the day is to have fun, with everyone welcome. Soup and pies will be available throughout the afternoon, while the day will be rounded off by a disco for members and friends.
Come along, join the fun and support your team!
(The above is a very slightly modified version of an item submitted to the Fife Herald and the Dundee Courier).

Just in Time!
It’s here! It’s here! Le Freuchie Centenary Whisky est arrivé!
Hurry on down to Freuchie Cricket Club or to the Lomond Hills Hotel, Freuchie for your supplies of Freuchie 100 (cask strength 12 year old single malt from the Tomatin Distillery).
Various people pulled out the stops to make this happen, and our sincere thanks go to our graphics designer, to the Scottish Liqueur Centre and to Winter the Printer for all their efforts.

One Firm Hit
We posted the news about our Centenary whisky last week. “One firm hit,” we said, and we’d have our century. There was one firm hit, sure enough, but it wasn’t us that hit it. We copped it right in the part that causes hilarity among the fielding side and excruciating pain to the batsman.
We were advised not to use the word ‘fraoch’ on our label. Let’s just leave it at that.
So we’ve been back into panic design modifications, to show “Freuchie 100″ instead of the forbidden word. The design is with the printer this morning, and we are still hoping you’ll be able to fill the stockings of the most deserving people in your life.
It’s still going to be cask-strength Tomatin, label still from Winter the Printer and bottling still by the Scottish Liqueur Centre. We really appreciate what they’ve done for us.

Nervous Nineties?
The Century almost in our grasp (Centenary Year, that is). So what’s to be nervous about?
At this stage, really only our long-promised Centenary Whisky, and we’re only one firm shot away from that, so to speak. (It’s tempting to talk about a few weeks of playing and missing, but you can overwork an analogy, can’t you). The Scottish Liqueur Centre has got our whisky (cask strength 12 year old single malt from the Tomatin Distillery), our much-pestered graphics designer has done the label and the design is away to Winter the Printer. So will we have Freuchie Cricket Club‘s ‘Fraoch’ Centenary Whisky in time for Christmas presents to your favourite people? Surely. A souvenir to treasure, or a dram to enjoy? Get them two bottles, so they can have their whisky and drink it. A snip at £25, available from the Club or from the Lomond Hills Hotel in Freuchie.
The promised pens (£4) and ties (£10) are already on sale and going well. Get them at the club, at the Lomond Hills Hotel or at the Post Office.
Meantime, the AGM has come and gone, with never a punch thrown. (Not that the referees spotted, anyway). Main points are that we have Alan Duncan back as President, while Alan Wallace takes over as Club Captain. Lawrence’s business is making more and more demands on him, so Dave Christie takes over as Cricket Convener. Thanks for what you’ve done in the last couple of years, Lawrence. Robbie Birrell has taken over as Junior Convener, while the fee structure for junior members has been simplified – £5 for those of primary school age, £10 for those under eighteen, but the £1 match levy dropped. Membership fee for senior players has gone up to £50 – a bit of a hike from where it’s been, but still reckoned to be one of the lowest around.
