TOUR DE FREUCHIE (Bring yer ain yelly jersey)
An exciting cycle relay race will be held on Saturday the 29th of December for Freuchie Cricket Club’s last competitive event of the year. Twenty teams (possibly more) of four riders will compete, each rider completing a lap of the 4.5 mile route from the clubhouse, north past Unthank, west towards Lathrisk, through Newton of Falkland and home to Freuchie to send the next team member on their way. They will do this twice (if they have the stamina), some riders taking it more seriously than others. Prizes will be awarded for best team and individual performances.
One of the main purposes of the day is to raise funds for the refurbishment of the club’s outfield mower, which is to cost over £2,100. Having this year won ‘Scottish Groundsman of the Year’ award for the second time, groundsman Dave Christie recognises the importance of this mower in keeping the park in its excellent condition. Each cycle team captain is organising the contribution from his team, with monies coming from entry fees and sponsorship. Rider registration starts at 11 am, with first rider off at 12 noon.
The other purpose of the day is to have fun, with everyone welcome. Soup and pies will be available throughout the afternoon, while the day will be rounded off by a disco for members and friends.
