Captain’s Corner
Our tour to Huntly was a great success!
Didn’t manage to get a full game in which was a shame, but the guys who didn’t play last week all batted, well except for Jock Wallace who missed out! We welcomed Dan Harper to the club last week, he batted well and looked very good. Freuchie scored 188 for 4 of which S Rowley had 50+ not out and a further 3 guys getting into the 30’s including Dan. All in all a very satisfying batting performance.
On the bowling side, we had Huntly 50 for 5 before the rain interrupted play. Special mention must go to Jock Wallace and Ian Patterson on a very good opening partnership, Jock claimed a couple of wickets with Ian chipping in with one.
We’d like to thank Jock Wallace for all his hard work in organising this tour as well as driving us there and back. A special mention to Scribe (our scorer) who travelled up on Saturday and scored his 2000th game, a great achievement you would agree.
Looking ahead to this weekend, the guys have worked hard at training and are in good shape. We just hope the weather doesn’t beat us once again!

Junior Training
Summer is here, well almost, and it is time for you to break out your bat and pads and head back to Friday night training sessions. They start this Friday at the park at Freuchie Cricket Club, Muirs Road, Freuchie at the usual time of 6:30pm until 8:00pm. The first night will be mostly taken up with registration and other administrative issues but if there is time we will try and do some training, This year the Club has decided that junior membership will be £6 for primary school age children and £12 for secondary school children and is due on registration. Please bring along your plastic membership card issued last year as this will be validated for 2009 .
Children interested in playing cricket are very welcome to come along to join in the fun. More information and details from Neil Millar.
To help parents and children to get to know each other the club is running a disco in the function suite using recently purchased equipment for all until 10:00pm. So I hope you will manage to stay for a short time and enjoy some time at the club. (The function suite is also available for function for club members so ask if you feel you would like to use the facility – donation welcome for its use).
The Club has also decided to get additional help with coaching and playing cricket from an overseas professional and an overseas amateur cricketer. This is a big financial commitment for the club but for the future of Freuchie Cricket Club players it is felt the best way forward. While no additional charges have been put in place to cover this cost it is hoped Junior well help with fund raising over the playing year. One way is to take part in the lucky number sheet every Friday. This will cost 50p per line where you pick 2 numbers from 20. If you get the correct numbers in the correct order you win at least a share of the money. If no one wins it rolls over to the next week. The current prize money is standing at £60 for this week. The draw is due to be done on Friday night. You got to be in it to win it so please take the opportunity by buying a line and also help the club fund the additional coaching staff.
The junior members were not able to take part in the sponsored cycle race between Christmas and New Year for club funds, Some members have asked to get involved in some way and so it has been decided to organise a sponsored cycle race of our own in June. This will involve all ages doing their own cycle race round the pitch or the cricket square depending on age. The plan for this is to take place in June more information will be posted on the blog and notice board.

Captain’s Corner
With the cold winter months hopefully behind us we can now look forward to the forthcoming cricket season. This will be my first full season as captain and I’m really looking forward to the challenges ahead. There are a few people I’d like to thank before the season has even started, as we all know alot of work goes on behind the scenes during the closed season. Firstly I’d like to thank John Thomson who is putting together an impressive website for us, hopefully we can keep providing him with plenty of material to keep it interesting and informative. Secondly I’d like to thank Dave Christie for all his hard work once again in providing a first class square for us to play on. Another thank you must go to Scott Galloway for all his help and research with finding our overseas players for the season.
I’d like to wish Ian Patterson all the best as President this year, he has been very supportive and I’m sure under his leadership Freuchie Cricket Club can move forward.
Saturday was our first game of the season, a friendly against Glenrothes Cricket Club. Unfortunately we lost by a mere 16 runs, due to some slack bowling and some bad shot selection by the batsmen. However, as it is our first game of the season we will not dwell too much on the result but rather look on the positives which were that all the batsmen spent some time at the crease and the bowlers all turned their arm over. Special mention must go to Jamie Macintosh who has committed himself to play for Freuchie this season and looks to be a very good addition to the playing staff.
Looking forward to next week as we are off to Huntly for a weekend of team building (and drinking!), we will definitely be joined by our amateur Dan Harper who arrives this week and we also hope that Mario Saliwa, our Pro, will also be here in time to join us. However we are still waiting on word back regarding his Visa to enter the county, we will keep you posted on this situation as it unfolds.
Regards
Robbie Birrell

Season Preparations
As the 2009 season looms close, players and officials at Freuchie Cricket Club spent a brisk sunny Sunday working away to prepare the training facilities and repair areas of the cricket field that hadn’t faired so well during the football season.
The official club photographer was there to capture some of the action.
There will be more information about training and matches coming along soon.
