SNCL Championship

We finished top of our mini league, beating Falkland and Kelburne with the Corstorphine game cancelled because of rain. That leaves us ninth out of fifteen – go to http://www.cricketscotland.com/SNCL/div1 for the complete league table.

The weather was the clear winner in 2011. With fifteen clubs in the league, there was a potential of twenty eight matches. We played only nine, Ferguslie only seven!

A fine weekend

In more ways than one – the sun shone, the rain stayed away, the Twos won against Leith Fab on Saturday and the Firsts won against Falkland on Sunday. ‘Sha boy!

The win against Falkland puts us at the top of ‘mini league three’ – two quartets above us from the twelve clubs that started the year in the SNCL Championship, one quarter below. The remaining members of our quartet are Corstorphine and Kelburne and we’ll be playing both at home next weekend. Corstorphine should have been an away fixture, but their pitch is waterlogged. We’re happy to have both games here; come along this weekend and see where we finish in our mini-league.

All we need is another weekend like the one we’ve just had!

Nice one, Kenny!

No cricket on Saturday, but after all my dismal predictions about unending rain, Sunday was a good day. Good in more ways than one – chasing 154, Kenny Crichton (at least I think it’s him) scored the winning runs in the last over. Late in the day, too – just after 8 o’clock. Look at the length of the shadows!

Search for a new secretary

Our present secretary will retire in December of this year and we are looking for a replacement.

A major part of the job is handling communications to and from the club. Almost all of these are by email, so some familiarity with email is essential. (That doesn’t mean high powered expertise – just general knowledge of dealing with emails and attachments).

We are keen to find someone as soon as possible to give us a smooth handover. Finding someone soon also gives us the chance to discuss what duties might fall to the new secretary and what to other members of our committee.

If you would be willing to consider taking on the job, talk to president Mickey McMurdo (07843 940 142, president@freuchiecricketclub.com) or John Anderson (01337 857 292, secretary@freuchiecricketclub.com).

Roadworks make it tough to get here

Any visiting teams coming from the Dundee direction in the next few weeks will have to take a detour (well sign-posted, we hope) on the A92 just north of the village, where the bridge over the river Eden is being strengthened.

There may also be some problems in the village itself – see the Flood Action Group’s news at http://www.floodaction.org.uk/blog/2011/08/12/road-works/

That is, of course, if the rain ever stops long enough to make play a possibility …………

Teams for 13th and 14th August

Unless there is a remarkable (and contrary to forecast) change in the weather, it’ll be water polo rather than cricket. Anyway the teams picked are
