U13 Freuchie vs Stirling County – Wed 23rd May
Match Report By: Neil Millar
Stirling: 98 for 2
Freuchie: 81 all out
Stirling travelled to Freuchie for the second meeting of the clubs in two evenings, the under thirteens hoping to follow the fifteens with a win. Stirling batted first and after an excellent opening over from Liam Kelly the opening batsmen began to score a bit too easily. The batsmen hit out until being forced to retire at 20 and 21 respectfully. The first wicket came at the end of the 15th over when Rory Brown bowled Stirling’s Jamieson (1). The second and only other wicket was gained when Robert Osborn held a good catch off the bowling of Shane Munro in the last over of the 20. Stirling was allowed to gain their 98 for 2 off 20 overs due to a high wide count and some poor work in the field by Freuchie. This was a bad day in the field for Freuchie compared to the very high standard that had been set in previous matches.
Freuchie went into bat with high hopes of being able to chase down the Stirling total. Alistair Brett started hitting out well until being bowled LBW in the third for 6. Liam Kelly then joined Cameron Millar in the middle and began very well, hitting four 4s before retiring on 22. The bowling from Stirling was in good form taking three quick wickets, leaving Freuchie a bit to do when they lost their 5th wicket for 60. After Liam retired, Cameron Brett and Ross McMurdo were the only batsmen able to put up any resistance to the Stirling bowling, with Cameron able to gain 8 and Ross 6. The pressure really mounted on Freuchie, but confidence was still high after a further 2 quick wickets and the score sitting at 77 for 9. Optimism still flowed as Liam rejoined the match. All looked well with Liam starting his second session just as he had finished the first with a 4 of the first ball. Unfortunately, Liam was not able to continue in this manner and was bowled the next ball for a grand total of 26 for his night’s work. The match was won by Stirling as Freuchie were only able to make 81 all out in the 17th over.

U13 Broomhall vs Freuchie – Thu 24th May
Match Report By: Neil Millar
Broomhall: 61 for 7
Freuchie: 101 for 3
Freuchie travelled to Broomhall for their ‘Spirit of Cricket’ cup game after rain postponed the earlier planned meeting. Following the disappointment of the previous night, everyone hoped for a return to the good performances of previous matches. Freuchie won the toss and elected to bat first, opening with Liam Kelly and Robert Osborn. While the bowling from Broomhall was very good, the batting of Liam was again able to cope with the pressure and he gained another four 4s to retire on 30. However, he would not be able to return under the rules of the Cup. Liam was backed up well by Robert who managed 12 before being bowled out in the 12th over. Greig Birrell(1) replaced Robert and while he looked comfortable facing the bowling he was able to get off the mark before being bowled out in the 14th over. Grant Horsburgh(5) made a great start as well hitting a 4 before being run out by a great bit of fielding. Shane Munro was next in with instructions to hit out, which he took to heart, very quickly running up two 4s and a total of 12 before being given LBW while going for another big hit. The last two Freuchie batsmen were Alistair Brett and Ross McMurdo. Alistair managed 10 not out, while Ross managed 1 off the two balls he faced in the last over. Freuchie collectively batted very well gaining 72 of the 103 runs from the bat and a further 10 runs by some excellent running up of byes.
The problems of the previous night must be put down to a “bad day” as the fielding and bowling returned to a more expected high quality. Liam Kelly started very well with his first over being a wicket maiden. Liam was backed up by Shane Munro bowling his first over for the loss of only one run. Both Liam and Shane bowled extremely accurately and produced figures of 1 for 6 off 3 overs and 2 for 8 off 4 overs respectfully. Alistair Brett was brought on and he also bowled well, taking his first wicket in his second over with a final tally of 1 for 14 off 3 overs. Robert Osborn was the best bowling figures when he was able to take 2 wickets for 5 runs off his two overs. All other team members were given an over each, with all being very economical thereby keeping the run rate down to less than the five per over required to claw out a victory. Cameron Brett was able to bowl a wicket maiden over when given his chance. Freuchie never looked to be in any trouble once the first four bowlers were able to keep Broomhall down to 27 runs after 10 overs. This was an excellent result and showed the character of the team, especially after the disappointment of the previous game. This victory was very much a team performance with all the players putting in a very good performance.
Freuchie now have to take on Kinross in the next round.
U15 Freuchie vs Broomhall – Sun 27th May
Match Report By: Paul Kelly
Freuchie: 140 runs for 4 wickets
Broomhall: 94 runs for 5 wickets
Further success for Freuchie’s U15s, with a good performance against visitors Broomhall. Freuchie opened the batting, but within the first over rain had stopped play. Robbie Wright (31 runs, retired) and Gordon Mutch (5 runs) were the openers in a re-shuffled batting order. Mutch fell to Howis and was replaced by Fraser Hurndall (31 runs, retired). Jack Meiklem (0 runs) came in to replace Wright, who had another strong performance, but was bowled by Ward. Jamie Blair (21 runs, not out) replaced Hurndall and remained at the crease for the rest of the overs. Liam Kelly (2 runs, LBW) and Shane Munro (0 runs, LBW) were both unfortunate to be ruled out. Robert Osborn (7 runs, bowled) and Grant Horsburgh (7 runs, not out) brought the batting total to an impressive 104.
Freuchie’s bowling and fielding were equally as impressive as their batting. Fraser Hurndall (0-25) and Liam Kelly (2-16) opened, with Kelly taking two important wickets in Howis (22 runs) and Ward (17 runs) with both looking capable of retiring. Jamie Blair (1-13), Robbie Wright (0-11), Robert Osborn (0-8), Gordon Mutch (1-8) and Jack Meiklem (1-1) all bowled well with Blair, Mutch and Meiklem taking wickets. It was a good all round team performance with Shane Munro keeping wicket well and Ross McMurdo, Grant Horsburgh and Simon Pfeffer all playing their part in keeping the runs down. Extra overs were added on at the end to give Freuchie’s Simon Pfeffer and Ross McMurdo a turn in the crease with McMurdo hitting a couple of nice shots.
This coming week, sees the U15s at home to Kinross on Wednesday 30th May.
