U13 Strathearn vs Freuchie – Tue 15th May
Strathearn: 103 runs for 5 wickets
Freuchie: 86 runs for 7 wickets

Freuchie travelled to Docotte Park on the outskirt of Perth to face Strathearn on what was a good evening for cricket. Batting first, Freuchie were slow to get started with Robert Osborn and Shane Munro facing strong bowling. Once Shane settled in he was able to hit out nicely with four 4s before retiring on 21. Robert was not so fortunate being caught off a top edge of his third ball. Alistair Brett joined Shane and was also able to gain four 4s before being bowled for 19. Batting after, Shane and Alistair struggled under the bowling pressure and were only halted by Ross McMurdo who managed two 4s before being caught for 11. Holly Jones (1) and Lewis Pour (0) were the last batsmen in before running out of overs for a final score of 86 for 7 of the 20 overs.

Cameron Brett opened the bowling for Freuchie and was able to hold them down to 7 off his two overs. The bowling that followed was also of a good high standard with Dorothy Mackie and Alex Warren both gaining a wicket each. Rory was able to catch and bowl for the third wicket. Grant Horsburgh was the top wicket taker with two wickets, although this could so easily have been a hat trick if he had managed to hold the ellusive ball. All the players who travelled were able to have a shot at bowling as Strathearn stayed on after they had gained the victory in the 17th over.

Once again the team had performed well, but the batting from Strathearn was just to strong for Freuchie.

U15 Freuchie vs Strathearn – Wed 16th May
Freuchie: 97 runs for 6 wickets
Strathearn: 96 runs for 7 wickets

Freuchie?s U15?s made it two wins in a row with another tense last over win against a strong Strathearn side on a dull and cold Wednesday evening. Freuchie captain Dale Cowan won the toss and put Strathearn in to bat. Freuchie got off to a good start with Cowan bowling 4 overs and only conceding 4 runs for 2 wickets. Alastair Brett and Robert Osborn picked up a wicket each. The rest of the Freuchie bowlers Robbie Wright, Liam Kelly, Jamie Blair and Gordon Mutch also bowled extremely well. Freuchie?s fielded fantastically with great commitment and this was proven with three run outs. There were also some great stops from Robert Osborn, Gordon Mutch and the ?two Cameron?s? Brett and Millar.

When it came to batting, Freuchie were off to a slow start and with two of their main batsman Cowan and Kelly both back in the clubhouse for ten runs each. At this point it looked a tall order to overhaul Strathearn?s total. However, opener Robbie Wright (24 runs) assisted by Gordon Mutch (11 runs) and Alastair Brett (12 runs) assisted Freuchie close in on the target and it was left to Shane Munro and Robert Osborn to seal the win with 3 balls to spare.

U15 Freuchie vs Clackmannan – Thu 17th May
Freuchie: 115 runs for 3 wickets
Clackmannan: 109 runs for 5 wickets

After the previous night’s performance, Freuchie?s U15 team travelled to Clackmannan for Scottish Cup duty on a high. Freuchie won the toss and decided to bat first. Dale Cowan (0 runs) and Robbie Wright (27 runs) opened, with Cowan falling early. Fraser Hurndall was next up, making a welcome return to the team with an impressive 47 runs before being caught on the boundary. Liam Kelly replaced him and scored 17 not out with another solid batting display. It was a great batting performance from all three scoring an impressive 91 runs between them. Robbie fell to an LBW and was replaced by Gordon Mutch (3 runs) who batted well and was also not out taking our runs to 94.

Clackmannan?s reply was good through McNish, Oliver and Smith taking their score to 85. Shane Munro had to be replaced behind the stumps early on by Calum Raerie after Shane took a painful blow to the knee. All of sudden Freuchie?s score was under threat, until Hurndall caught McNish (15runs); Cowan caught Oliver (38 runs) from Kelly. Alastair Brett and Gordon Mutch continued the downfall with Brett bowling Elliott taking an important wicket and Mutch with two run outs Smith (29 runs), McPhail (0 runs) and bowled Lamb (0 runs). Jamie Blair and Robbie Wright also bowled well. Out in the field, fielding was good with Rory Brown and Jack Meiklem equally playing their part in good all round team performance.

This week, the U15s are at away to Stirling on Tuesday 22nd May and at home to Broomhall on Sunday 27th May.

U13 Dunfermline vs Freuchie – Fri 18th May
Dunfermline: 73 for 8
Freuchie: 115 for 6

Freuchie travelled to Dunfermline having not had a game for almost two weeks so were very keen to get a good start. Dunfermline won the toss and elected to allow Freuchie to bat first. Alastair Brett and Shane Munro were sent out to face some fierce bowling from Dunfermline, but both dug in to stand up to the challenge, especially Shane, who stayed in until the 16th over before being bowled for 16. Alastair was not able to hold on so long, but hit out well to get 6 after facing 7 balls before being bowled. Alex Warren was sent out earlier than normal. as he had not had a bat for many games, but was beaten by some fast bowling in the same over. Liam Kelly was then put in at number 4 and set about the bowling with some very well placed and strong hits. He managed four 4s and retired on 22 having faced 26 balls. Ross McMurdo then walked to the centre and set good early pace, but unfortunately played on to loose his wicket for 7 off 6 balls faced. Greig Birrell and then Grant Horsburgh batted well for their two runs each before being caught behind and run out respectfully. Rory Brown went in at number 8 and was joined by Cameron Millar at 9 to see out the final three overs. Rory batted confidently and was backed up well by Cameron to run up a total of 14 (Rory) and 3 (Cameron) for a final total of 115 for 6 off the twenty overs. This was a strong performance by all batsmen, with Shane worthy of particular mention for his concentration and batting over 16 overs, and Liam for his quick run rate to set up the team for its highest total of the season.

Could the team perform as well in the field as they had done at the crease was the question? The answer came in the second and third overs when first Alastair Brett and then Shane Munro took the wickets of the highly rated opening Dunfermline batsmen (the Petrie twins) for the loss of 11 runs. Shane was close to getting a hat trick in his second over but unfortunately a wide call dashed that hope. Alastair Brett had a particularly good two overs, during which he managed a 1 for 1. Liam Kelly and Cameron Brett were then brought on to bowl and here again Liam with his second ball took an early wicket finishing with 1 for 4 runs. Cameron, while unable to take a wicket did a manage a maiden over and cost 6 runs. Alex Warren and Rory Brown were next up and again the statistic read very well with Alex 0 for 4 and Rory managing a wicket with his fourth ball to return 1 for 5. Next Holly Jones and Greig Birrell bowled very economically returning figures of 1 for 13 and 0 for 7 respectfully. Lewis Pour and Ross McMurdo were next up to bowl and while neither gained a wicket, the runs were kept to a very respectful 5 and 9 respectfully. However, the finest bowling of the night can be attributed to Grant Horsburgh, who took two wickets for 6 runs in his first over, before bowling a maiden with his last. Freuchie bowled out the twenty overs and managed to hold Dunfermline to 73 runs for 8 wickets off the 20 overs.

This is an excellent result against a strong Dunfermline club on what was a dry but very cold night.

U11 Freuchie vs Largo
Freuchie: 205 runs for 7 wickets
Largo: 298 runs for 2 wickets

After last weeks comfortable win against Falkland, Freuchie’s U11 team came up against a strong and well drilled Largo squad who played some great and exciting cricket. Largo won the toss and decided to bat first and they racked up a big score of 298 runs for the loss of only 2 wickets. Best Freuchie bowling performers were Cameron Brett with one wicket for 9 runs, Dorothy Mackie and Holly Jones only losing 10 runs each after their overs. The other Freuchie wicket taker was Joe Gibson. The strong winds made fielding difficult but Freuchie stuck to their task.

It was always going to be a tall order to chase down 298 runs but unfortunately Freuchie lost too many early wickets with the result they were never in the “hunt”. Best Freuchie batsmen were Holly Jones (12 runs), Greg Birrell (9 runs) and Cameron Brett (7 Runs) all who were undefeated.

Now the U11s have a few weeks until their next fixture against Dunfermline on the 3rd June.

U13 Largo vs Freuchie
Freuchie: 85 runs for 6 wickets
Largo: 108 runs for 2 wickets

Freuchie’s U13 team visited Largo with high hopes after their recent win over Falkland despite travelling without one of their main bowlers Robert Osborn. Captain Liam Kelly won the toss and decided to bat first on a very windy and cold evening. Opening the batting were Shane Munro and Greg Birrell but both were out early on for 5 and 1 runs respectively. Next up was Grant Horsburgh who scored 6 runs including a 4. At this stage Freuchie were in trouble but with top batsman Liam Kelly and Alastair Brett the run rate increased and both retired with 20 runs each. Liam scoring one 4 and Alastair three 4’s in their totals. Freuchie finally finished on 85 runs after their 20 overs.

Largo’s reply was swift and they reached Freuchie’s total with 3 overs to spare. Freuchie’s best bowlers were Alastair Brett with one wicket for 6 runs and Liam Kelly no wickets for 6 runs. Freuchie’s other wicket taker was Shane Munro with a great caught and bowled. Top fielder on the night was Grant Horsburgh who saved 5 certain “4’s” with some fantastic stops.

The U13s next fixture is against Strathearn on Tuesday evening (15th May).

U15 Freuchie vs Largo
Freuchie: 96 runs for 4 wickets
Largo: 94 runs for 5 wickets

Freuchie’s U15 team returned to winning ways in a tense tussle with Largo. Freuchie opened the batting after winning the toss. Dale Cowan and Robbie Wright were the openers with Dale scoring 21 runs before being caught and Robbie completing a great innings retiring on 30. Liam Kelly third batsman scored 8 runs and was followed by Shane Munro 4 runs and Gordon Mutch 3 runs.

Freuchie’s bowling proved to be the deciding factor of the evening with Largo’s opening three batsmen falling quickly to Dale Cowan (2 maidens) taking 2 wickets and a run out by Jamie Blair. Jamie also recorded a maiden over as well as taking a wicket. Liam Kelly, whose bowling has noticeably improved, took a vital wicket in Robertson who looked like he could go on and retire. With light fading, Largo’s Zaman retired on 33 runs. Gordon Mutch, Robert Osborn and Alastair Brett all came in and bowled well, with Alastair holding his nerve closing out the match and silencing the loud partisan Largo support.

This week, the U15s are at home against Strathearn on Wednesday 16th May (league) and away to Clackmannan on Thursday 17th May (Scottish Cup).

6. MATCH REPORTS

SUNDAY 29TH APRIL – U11 FREUCHIE VS FALKLAND
Freuchie 308 runs for 2 wickets.
Falkland 265 runs for 1 wicket.

Freuchie’s Under 11 team got their season off to a winning start with a comfortable win over local rivals Falkland. This was the first Under 11 hardball fixture between the two clubs and it was played with great enthusiasm and there were a number of great performances which augers well for the future. After Freuchie captain Ross McMurdo lost the toss, Falkland decided to put Freuchie into bat and Ross McMurdo got Freuchie off to a great start with 16 runs including two fours. He was ably supported by Alex Warren who scored 11 runs, which included two fours, and another 11 runs from Grant Horsburgh, which again included 2 fours. Only two Freuchie batsmen lost their wickets. Freuchie’s final total was 308 runs. A formidable total for Falkland to chase and so it proved with Falkland finishing on 265 runs, 43 runs short of Freuchie’s total. Freuchie’s bowling performance was very strong with Cameron Brett, Holly Jones, Alex Warren and Grant Horsburgh being the pick of the Freuchie bowlers.
