Memories of the Bonthrone Family
We are sad to hear of the deaths, within a few days of each other, of the widows of the Bonthrone brothers. Alex and Gaston played with us in the 40s and 50s, Alex captaining our Second Eleven for many years. Dave Christie pays tribute to both, remembering Gaston ‘as the quiet man who did many things for the club without members knowing how they had come about or who had paid for them.’
Winnie, widow of Alex, died on 18th September, and Daphne, widow of Gaston, on the 30th. It was Daphne who performed the opening ceremony of our new pavilion in June of 1973.
Our sympathies go to both families.

Cancellation of U18 T20 finals confirmed
Six o’clock on Saturday 10th September: Dave Christie has had one last inspection of our ground and confirmed that tomorrow’s games must be cancelled. There has been more rain this afternoon and heavy rain is forecast for tomorrow. Steve Paige of Cricket Scotland has been informed; he in turn is making the clubs aware.
Under 18s T20 Finals in Gravest Doubt
Saturday morning, 10th September, 12.10.
Our park is water-logged. The outfield and the square are covered in puddles. Rain has seeped under the covers. Every time there’s a glimpse of sun, it’s quickly followed by another shower. Dave can’t even get on to the ground to make remedial attempts.
It’s near-certain that tomorrow’s finals will have to be cancelled, but we’ll try to keep you up to date with posts on our website and on our Facebook page.

T20 Finals at Freuchie
We will be hosting the Scottish Under 18s T20 finals on Sunday 11th September. You can expect this to offer some really exciting cricket and a great chance to see some of Scotland’s best young players in action. The first semi final will be between Carlton and the winner of the quarter final between Greaves Clydesdale and Ferguslie. This will start at 11am, with Huntly against Barclay’s Wealth Grange (last year’s winners) at 1.30pm . The final will take place at 4pm.
This competition is now in its second year. There were 33 entrants – 50% up on last year – and it’s great to see more clubs getting involved in serious competition for this age group. We only wish we were not just hosting the event, but competing ourselves. Our key target in Freuchie is to bring more of our large number of very young players through to taking their cricket seriously in their mid to late teens. Now, that really would be something to get excited about!

Kwik cricket this Sunday
Come to see the future of Scottish cricket! All ages from five upwards!
Our annual Kwik cricket festival is on Sunday 4th September. Starting at half past ten, we have at least three Freuchie teams lined up with every possibility of more. Falkland will be here, as will Largo. Sadly, Dunfermline have had to call off, but it should still be a great morning. All over by about half past twelve.

SNCL Championship
We finished top of our mini league, beating Falkland and Kelburne with the Corstorphine game cancelled because of rain. That leaves us ninth out of fifteen – go to http://www.cricketscotland.com/SNCL/div1 for the complete league table.
The weather was the clear winner in 2011. With fifteen clubs in the league, there was a potential of twenty eight matches. We played only nine, Ferguslie only seven!
